Unlocking the Secrets of Childhood Learning

The age group of 2 to 15 years is an age group where children learn the most, they have an innate ability to learn and absorb information. Whatever a human learns in their childhood is the foundation of his or her life ahead!

Do we really understand the different ways in which the kids learn?

Kids learn from anything and everything that they see in their surroundings. Every child has an unique learning style and preference. A particular learning style may work with one child but may not really be comfortable for another child. As parents, we should understand that learning is not just about formal education but also includes the learning other life skills.

However, unlocking the secrets of childhood learning can be a challenging task due to the following reasons:

  • Parents usually do not understand that every child has a unique learning style, which is why they fail to provide the kids with a learning experience that can cater to the needs of the kids.
  • Parents and educators use the one-size-fits-all approach for the kid’s education, which may not work for all children. As a result, children may lose interest in their studies and miss crucial opportunities to learn.
  • Parents and educators may not have access to the necessary resources and support to create a personalized learning experience, such as specialized instruction, technology, or professional development opportunities.
  • Parents and educators may have unrealistic expectations of what children should know and be able to do at a particular age. These expectations may not be aligned with the child’s developmental stage, causing unnecessary stress and pressure.

To unlock the secrets from childhood learning, we need to adopt a more personalized approach. Here are some ways to do that:

  • Identify the Child’s Learning Style:

Every child is unique, hence each one of them has a different learning style. Identifying how the child grasps knowledge is something that will help the parents in the end to decide the best learning experience for the kids.
  • Encourage Active Learning:

Children learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process. Children should be encouraged to ask questions, experiment with the things in their surroundings and think out of the box.
  • Use Fun Learning:

Fun Learning helps children to enhance their cognitive and social skills if incorporated in the child’s playtime. Children should be encouraged to play, explore and foster their natural curiosity.
  • Provide a Meaningful and Relevant Learning Experience:

Children are active learners, they always learn from their surroundings, and hence they should be provided with a meaningful and relevant learning experience. They should be given opportunities to apply their learnings in the real world.

By adopting an approach which caters to the preferences and need of the children, we can create a learning experience that is engaging, meaningful, and effective. We also need to recognize the importance of play in childhood development. Play-based learning can help children develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
